If you are a resident of Minnesota, aiming to work in the primary care field, offering health care services to people of all culture and needs and backgrounds in the underserved areas of the state, you can complete Physician Assistant program in Minnesota, opt for the national Certification and earn Licensure to practice to serve these underserved citizens in rural, inner town and urban centers.

The classroom instructions and clinical rotation of the MN PA Program provide you with needed skills and knowledge and competency to assist the physician and work under his supervision in a variety of health care settings, hospitals, medical units and surgical specialties. The training also makes you eligible to write prescriptions and take autonomous decisions as and when required.

In the state of Minnesota, there is only one college – The Augsburg College that offers College Physician Assistant Studies Program and upon completion, you will be awarded a certificate or Master’s Degree in the Physician Assistant studies.

Augsburg College Physician Assistant Program

The Augsburg College Physician Assistant Program prepares a student in the primary care field to provide health care services to underserved population in rural and urban areas.

The basic goal of the Augsburg College Physician Assistant studies is based on few principals including:

• Prepare students for practice in Primary care.
• Work with the people of all culture, background and diverse population and meet their health care needs.
• Show a high degree of professionalism in their practice.
• Offer quality, safe and competent cares.

The program curriculum includes three years duration, and consists of both classes learning and clinical training. The program starts each year in the summer semester that is in late May. The didactic instructions on classroom courses include first 19 month’s study of subjects on science, biology, pharmacotherapy, technical skills workshops medicine and additional practical skills.

The next 17 months are reserved for the clinical rotation of the college PA program and the culmination of clinical training is a 12-week preceptorship that is concentrated on primary skill solidification. The clinical rotations are completed in MN and bordering cities of North Dakota and Wisconsin.  

The Augsburg College PA Program Admission Information

The PA Program class entering May 2011,tuition fee is $2,915.00 per course that can be divided as First Year, 9 courses, 2nd Year 7 Courses and 3rd Year 8 courses and estimation is $400 per year.
Books and Supplies

$1,600 is estimated cost for books and supplies

Lab Fees and Equipment Lab fees $600 or $200 per semester, and medical equipment cost is $800 

Clinical Phase Credentialing Fees

Additional credentialing documentation costs in clinical sites may come to $100

PA Admission Deposit is non-refundable $500, which is credited to student’s first semester tuition.

Elective International Experiences (optional) forthe master’s project costs between $2000.00- $5000.00. These charges are in addition to standard PA course tuition

There is an additional cost associated with the master’s project international experience.  Students who choose this as their option for the written master’s project can expect to pay between $2000.00- $5000.00 in addition to standard PA course tuition. Costs change dependent upon the market, international site and length of stay.

Financial Aids

The gradating students can apply for financial aids, and students loans through FAFSA.

Admission Prerequisites

• Bachelor’s degree
• GPA of 3.0 (Minimum cumulative)
• GPA of 3.0 (Minimum science)
• Completion of the prerequisites courses with grade “C” or higher

Accreditation

The accreditation to the program is granted by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
