Physician Assistant Program in Nevada

The dearth of health care field providers also led the Touro University Nevada to come forward and start the Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree in 2004 through College of Osteopathic Medicine and opened door for the student’s enrollment in the program along with the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) students.

Touro University Nevada, College of Osteopathic Medicine (TUNCOM)

The TUNCOM is located in Henderson, NV and the PA Master’s degree program of the college is only one of its kinds in the state of Nevada. The college graduated 120 PAs in last 3 years and each year 56 students are enrolled in the PA class. .  

The graduated and licensed PA from TUNCOM are able to perform 80% of the services that are traditionally performed by the a family physician including diagnosis and treatments, history procurement, physical examination, develop and execute treatment plans, order and interpret lab tests, clean, suture and dress wounds, educate and counsel patients on preventive health cares, prescribe medicines and engage in education, research and administrative functions.

TUNCOM Graduating PA Master’s Degree Program

The Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) program of the TUNCOM is 28 months long, and upon successful completion, awards the Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree. The program is divided into Sixteen months didactic classroom work and Clinical rotation of 12 months including 2 months elective rotations that offer the students opportunities to explore and understand different specialties.  

The PA program is very tough and students are discouraged to seek employments during program duration.

TUNCOM PA Curriculum

TUNCOM PA Curriculum for the MPAS degree program includes:

Session 1 – 19.5 credit hours
Session 2 – 21 credit hours
Session 3 – 19.5 credit hours
Session 4 – 23 credit hours

Clinical Rotations – 48 credit hours

PA Admission

There are certain prerequisites that must be completed to get eligibility to enroll in the program including:

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university.
  • Hold minimum cumulative and science GPA of 2.67
  • Completed required science courses totaling 22 semester hours, and additional 6 semester units equally divided between psychology and statistic within the past five years.
  • Working or volunteering experience in the health care field.
  • 2 letters of recommendations from health care field professional, to be submitted to CASPA.
  • Meet Technical standards as desired by the TUN.
  • Must be US citizen or hold permanent resident status.

Accreditation & Certification

The continued accreditation to the Touro University-Nevada sponsored, the Physician Assistant Program is granted by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

The successful completion of the accredited TUN Master’s program allows students to appear in the Physician Assistant National Certification Examination (PANCE) developed by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. The Certification also paves the way for the NV Physical assistant Licensure for practice.
